We recommend you reflect a bit and set some intentions to thrive and feel good during this festive season. Strategies for balancing fun and health are important, here are some tips.

  • Drink water or seltzer, before eating and in between alcoholic drinks, if you choose to partake, and definitely before dessert.

  • Think veggies and protein as first foods! If followed by carbohydrates, alcohol or sweets, choose a portion.

  • Would a small taste or a few bites savored do the trick? This is a great strategy for dessert!

  • What’s important to your body for feeling your best? Is it avoiding a specific food group? If so what will you have instead? For example, if dairy is your kryptonite, then bring something that is decadent to you and replaces a favorite dairy dish to avoid temptation and not feel left out.

  • Plan a recovery meal. Plan to include your super foods! Include more detoxifying foods: berries, beets, broths and stocks, ferments (kefir, yogurt, fermented veggies), greens, fresh and dried herbs and definitely protein to stabilize blood sugar.

  • Set aside time for the rest you need. Breathe deeply in the moments in between the busy ones; create the space you need to thrive.

  • Practice gratitude; a pause, a poem, or chant before eating feels great and helps us to eat more mindfully.

  • We have an example of a Gatha Adrienne’s family practices before meals based on the Buddhist tradition, view here.
